Lily? This is the most irrational and unbalanced that Snape acts all series, very different from his normal impassive demeanor so this was a big hint at a bigger picture. The only standout thing that Sirius had done different from Lupin was his supposed murdering of the Potter’s, and again: Snape hated James so he couldn’t have been angry about his death so was he upset at someone else’s death. And while Snape didn’t like Lupin, he wasn’t as furious at him as he was at Sirius. Why was he so angry that Sirius had (as far as he knew) killed James Potter- whom he hated and Lily- some Gryffindor Mudblood he shouldn’t give a damn about? His anger couldn’t have been just because of the past bullying or even the werewolf prank because as far as he was concerned Lupin was just as much involved in that as Sirius was. ![]() Snape’s irate behavior surrounding Sirius in PoA, specifically the shrieking shack scene and the hospital wing after finding out he escaped was very telling. This is especially interesting since the typical stereotype of a Slytherin was to insult muggleborns and with Lily being muggleborn he’d have all the reason to. Snape never missed an opportunity to push Harry’s buttons by insulting his father, but yet for some reason never included Lily in his insults despite the fact that it would be a sure fire way to piss Harry off even more. This post is all the evidence I compiled over a decade ago as to how I theorized Snape loved Lily prior to the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows back in July 21, 2007ġ. With so many new fans always entering the fandom and still finding out subtle clues or hidden meanings (because what else can you do with no more books to look forward to) I thought it would be cool to show how I was able to figure out that there was some sort of connection between Severus Snape and Lily Potter. Me, being obsessed with Harry Potter when the books were still being published (still obsessed, just have other hobbies now), I desperately reread the prior 6 books repeatedly before the release of the last book to see if I could possibly be able to predict some major plot points and I did! When the truth of what the main motivation for Severus Snape’s actions against Lord Voldemort was revealed to be Lily Potter in the last installment of Harry Potter, it shocked the world.īut when rereading the books since then in hindsight, readers are able to see that the clues were there the whole time. TL DR When compiling all the various subtle clues dropped throughout the series in combination with what J.K Rowling had said in interviews, anyone could have potentially figured out Snape’s connection to Lily.
